The Face ID continues to surprise: it will also work with the iPhone 8 horizontally

HomePod is proving to be a real gold mine in terms of information. And it is that if a few days ago we knew that the next iPhone 8 will have a smart camera , which will not have Touch ID, but it will include split status bar and Tap to wake , now we are still unveiling new face recognition features. Not only will it be a reality, but it will be a fast, secure and reliable tool, but will work perfectly with the face partially hidden and even with the iPhone horizontal .

Within the lines of code of the HomePod appears a line that precisely refers to this last feature so that we can unlock the terminal comfortably , that is to say, when the iPhone 8 lies on a surface: "AXRestingPearlUnlock" and "com.apple.accessibility .resting.pearl.unlock ".

So this interesting feature is categorized by Apple as an option within Accessibility , a section that we can find in Settings. That is, we can probably activate it by going there, although it could also be active by default and we can deactivate it. Very useful, right?

However, it is not the first time we have heard something similar, although a previous Bloomberg article earlier this year explained that Apple had worked hard on the speed and accuracy of facial recognition:

THE SPEED AND PRECISION OF THE SENSOR ARE VITAL TO INTEGRATE THIS FEATURE. YOU CAN SCAN THE USER'S FACE AND UNLOCK THE IPHONE WITHIN A FEW HUNDREDTHS OF MILLISECONDS. IT IS DESIGNED TO WORK EVEN WHEN THE TERMINAL IS ON A TABLE, NOT JUST WHEN IT IS CLOSE TO THE FACE.

To achieve this, facial recognition is likely to use infrared which would allow it to be effective even at very unusual angles, that is, very wide.

In addition, the HomePod speaks of "APPS_USING_PEARL", something that theoretically would enable facial recognition to be used with third-party apps , such as banking or financial, which in many cases currently use the Touch ID.

Finally, there is a reference to something called "PEARL_AUTOLOCK", which is not very well known what it could do, although everything indicates that it will be an additional security measure that would block the iPhone if it detects an unknown face . Every day we have more desire to change the Touch ID by Face ID.
