The iPad Pro, the protagonist of Apple's success in the tablet market

A few days ago Apple unveiled its astounding figures for the third quarter of 2017 . Of these, probably the one that surprised us the most was the one related to its tablet, and is that more than 11.4 million iPad sold represents a 15% increase over the same period last year . What are the responsible causes of this recovery after more than a year of continued failure?

Many of us are inclined towards the resounding success of the affordable iPad that came to light in June , commonly referred to as the iPad low cost , a device that sells for 399 euros ($ 329 dollars), thicker and heavier than the iPad Air , With Retina technology and an A9 processor. It has its logic, right? After all, many users use their tablet for consumption of content and leisure, more than enough for a terminal that offers such good performance.

Well, Strategy Analytics has revealed the real reason: if the average iPad is $ 435, this means that the iPad Pro is the one that actually hit the table , which is making a difference . According to Eric Smith:

IT IS UNDENIABLE THAT CHEAP IPAD HAS HELPED TO BOOST SALES IN THE JUNE QUARTER, BUT THE NUMBERS SAY SOMETHING DIFFERENT. IT IS THE IPAD PRO THAT HAVE ACHIEVED THIS HIGH.

If we take history, the average price of iPad has been around $ 415 and $ 450 since 2015, although this average rose to 490 after the launch of the original iPad Pro of 9.7 inches.

Of course, sales of 11.4 million devices exceed any expectations, which for example, in the case of Wall Street, stood at 9 million. Others were more pessimistic and targeted only 7 million.

With these figures, according to Strategy Analytics, Apple has a market share of tablets of 26%, becoming the best-selling device . Silver is for Samsung, with just half, 13% and Huawei in third place with 3.2 million tablets. That is, only Apple, Huawei and Amazon improved their numbers, while Samsung, Lenovo and the rest continued to fall.

And it seems that Apple's campaign to try to sell their iPad Pro as laptop substitutes has given its results. After all, it is difficult to find a computer for that price that is so light, that autonomy and virus free, which leaves out the bulk of Windows laptops. Nor can we forget the durability of iPad.

Perhaps it is not so serious that it does not allow to run software like Autocad, Photoshop or that does not include mouse, because simply the majority of its users do not look for that.
