At Apple are afraid that we do not know to use the Face ID

Apple's software engineering chief Craig Federighi has had a talk with John Gruber of Daring Fireball in a chapter of The Talk Show where he compared the uncertainties about Face ID to the concerns expressed by customers when Touch ID was first released in 2013 with the iPhone 5S .

"Honestly, we're just counting the days when customers can finally get their hands on this. Because I think as with Touch ID, people initially thought, "Apple has done something that will not work and I do not believe it and I will not use this feature." Now everyone is worried because they can not imagine life without Touch ID. Let's see exactly the same with Face ID . "

In the talk, which mentioned the anecdote that occurred on Tuesday at the stage of the Steve Jobs Theater, and in Face ID failed to authenticate his face, Federighi said he was surprised when it happened because the function normally only works. He went on to say that he understands uncertainty, but that it "will fade" once people experience the product .

Federighi went on to say that as much as Apple defends the Touch ID, Face ID is "much better." He confirmed that Apple believes that Face ID is the future of biometric authentication , warning that there are environments where different biometric techniques or combinations of biometric data could make sense.

Federighi reiterated that most of the sunglasses work with Face ID, apart from some that have coatings that block the infrared . One way to avoid it, he says, is to turn off the "mindfulness" feature that requires eye contact to unlock Face ID.

He also explained why users need to go over the iPhone X lock screen, instead of opening directly with a facial scan, so they can review the notifications, or turn on the flashlight without the iPhone unlocking the home screen. Scanning and scanning are simultaneous with no real waiting period or delay .

Federighi's complete interview with John Gruber can be heard on The Talk Show .
