Snapchat is updated to allow Augmented Reality

The iOS 11 approach to augmented reality is continued in Snapchat with its latest application update on iOS. The company has announced a new feature called "Sky Filters" that uses augmented reality to paint the sky on your photo in a totally different color.

The company says that Sky Filters works by recognizing the sky in a photo and prompting users to choose from a new type of sky , such as a starry night, stormy clouds, beautiful sunsets, rainbows and more.

To access the filters, simply take a photo with at least a part of the visible sky and slide to the left to see how the sky is transformed . The end result is quite fresh and original, as you can take any sky and turn it into a beautiful canvas. As you can see in the images above, the original generic-looking image can be completely transformed.

Today's update is the latest in Snapchat's growing focus on augmented reality . The company has been working to market itself more than just a social network. Over the past year, Snapchat has added things like more advanced lenses, animated Bitmoji, motion tracking tags and more.

More recently, Snapchat introduced a new "Crowd Surf " feature that takes several videos and clips of live events as concerts and brings them together for a larger video . Like much of its recent additions of features, this is driven by artificial intelligence.

As with many Snapchat features, the sky filters that are available will rotate daily as a way to encourage users to check them every day.
