How to know in detail the state of the iPhone battery

It is no secret that the batteries of the current terminals are not infinite , in fact they have the useful life more than calculated since the same Apple keeps information on these and they have the cycles of battery that is endured well calculated before the deterioration begins .

To clarify, a battery cycle is a discharge from 100% to 0% and a charge from 0% to 100% . When we have the phone at 50% (for example) and we charge it up to 100%, it will not count as a complete cycle. To be considered a complete cycle you must download 100% and load 100%, but obviously in the previous example we will have completed half cycle of the battery, and this will add to the wear .

All this is quite important since Apple uses these cycles to know if your battery is in good condition following the following rules:

  •     The iPhone will lose 20% of its battery capacity at 500 cycles.
  •     Apple Watch will lose 20% of its battery capacity at 1,000 cycles.
  •     The iPad will lose 20% of its battery capacity at 1,000 cycles.
  •     The iPod will lose 20% of its battery capacity at 400 cycles.
  •     The MacBook will lose 20% of its battery capacity at 1,000 cycles.

Therefore, if we buy a second hand device from Apple, we will definitely be interested to know how many cycles you have completed to be informed of the current state of the battery.

Unfortunately - and for a change - Apple does not allow iOS applications to report the cycles that the battery has completed , so you need to connect your iPhone to the computer (Windows or MacOS) because for these platforms there are tools which will allow us to access this information.

How do I get the number of battery cycles completed by my device?

If you are a MacOS user you will need the coconut Battery app . This application gives you access to detailed information about the battery of any Apple device : it can teach you the current status of the battery, its total capacity, the factory capacity, the name and model of the battery, the date of manufacture of said battery, the number of cycles completed and the temperature of this.

For Windows we will use the free trial of iBackupBot . This old application continues to function as the first day, in addition to quickly check the number of cycles that the battery has done we will use the trial version , but if you need to use it more time you will have to pay the $ 35 costing the full version.

In iBackupBot we will only have to select our device, then more information and look for the section that says "CycleCount". Once done this will show us the number of cycles completed by the battery of our terminal .

Keep in mind that changing the battery is not too expensive and that would be a very considerate option for an old iPhone that you still use . Anyway, now you know how to check the condition and wear of the battery of your terminal and that will serve you a lot when you start to notice that it does not last as much as before.
