The Google Pixel 2 is not real competition for the iPhone

Google's new line of smartphones has just been introduced at its official opening this past Wednesday. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are a decent upgrade on their predecessors , with improved designs and many internal enhancements. But they certainly have nothing to worry about Apple's new ones.

Google's own line of smartphones used to focus on providing Android developers with very good and capable devices at an affordable price. In recent years, however, the company has shifted its focus towards consumers , and devices have improved greatly.

Last year's Pixel devices, which celebrated their first anniversary this week, were the best of Google. They offered excellent hardware and impressive features packaged in premium designs. They were the first devices of Google to compete with the iPhone on all fronts. They gave fans high hopes for Pixel 2, but for many, today's unveiling has been a disappointment.

Design not over there.

Thanks to the Galaxy S8, the LG G6 and the upcoming iPhone X, edge-to-edge displays are the most exciting things on the mobile right now. But you will not find one in the Pixel 2 lineup. If you opt for the smaller Pixel 2, you'll get a 5-inch 1080p screen, just like last year , surrounded by the bulging bezels you're used to seeing on Pixel phones. In fact, the top and bottom of the screen look even bigger this time around.

Google has thinned the Pixel 2 XL, however. It is not a border-to-edge display, but has rounded corners and the upper and lower edges are thinner. Its screen is also larger, measuring at 6 inches, and is sharper with a resolution of Quad HD.

This resolution gives the Pixel 2 XL an aspect ratio of 18: 9, like the Galaxy S8, and 538 pixels per inch. Pixel 2 maintains its 16: 9 aspect ratio and 441 ppi.

The Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL are made of aluminum and Gorilla Glass. They have fingerprint scanners on the back, a power button and volume switch on the sides, and a USB-C port on the bottom. As is suspected, there is no headphone jack. How much was criticized Apple in 2016 for this!

For the first time, the Pixel line is dust and water resistant. They also feature a pressure sensitive body, which allows you to squeeze the sides of the device to summon the Google Assistant, or to use other features like the camera shutter .

Family Specifications

Earlier rumors promised that the Pixel 2 would be powered by a newer and faster processor than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 836. Instead, it packs the same Snapdragon 835 chip found on other 2017 flagships such as the Galaxy S8, the LG V30 and the OnePlus 5.

That means the performance will not match the Bionic A11 chip found on the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X, which gets amazingly impressive results in benchmark tests. However, it will offer a smooth and agile experience .

Both devices have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage as standard, but there is a choice of 128GB of storage. They will bring Android 8.0 Oreo pre-installed, and Google promises they will always be up-to-date. Google has packed the fast charging technology into its latest handsets, promising up to 7 hours of use after a 15-minute charge .

Still better cameras

One of the areas where Pixel 2 will not disappoint is in the photograph. DxOMark has delivered to both devices an unprecedented score of 98, the highest ever achieved by a smartphone camera.

It is possible thanks to a 12 megapixel camera with high dynamic range and optical image stabilization. It uses Dual Pixel technology to offer an iPhone-like portrait mode without a second camera sensor and, again, motion pictures like the iPhone.

In fact, we are facing magnificent phones that we know will not disappoint. Google knows how to do things very well and these two terminals promise a lot. Although there to shade the proposals of Apple there is plenty of room.
