Samsung starts production of the first 16 Gb GDDR6 chips

Samsung has confirmed its plans to produce GDDR6 memories. They are the fastest chips announced to date. GDDR6 is a high performance memory standard, compatible with the three main DRAM manufacturers. They will have data transfer speeds of up to 16 Gbps to 1.35. The new memories are based on Samsung's 10-nanometer process technology, and with its 16 Gb (equivalent to 2 Gigabytes GB) they double the potential of the company's 20 nanometer and 8 Gb GDDR5 memories. This new RAM works at a speed of 16 gigabits per second per pin, with a data transfer capacity of 72 gigabytes per second, which represents an increase more than two times higher than the 8 Gb GDDR5 with its speed of 8 Gbps per second. pin

The change to 10 nanometers from 20 nanometers has also increased production gains by 30 percent. They will be aimed at mobile servers, gaming devices, graphics cards, as well as artificial intelligence systems and networks and automobiles.

Samsung has used a low-power circuit design for its new GDDR6 to reduce power consumption by approximately 35% compared to the previous generation, moving from operating at 1.55V to only 1.35V.
