This is how the iOS Emojis have evolved since 2008

Does anyone remember the funny emoticons present in the unforgettable and legendary MSN Messenger? Some of our younger readers may not know about them, but this gives us an idea of how much the emojis are among us.

We are in 2018 already, and iOS emojis are already 10 years old. In 2008, Angela Guzman was a design student who joined the Apple team to work on the first 500 emojis available for the iPhone.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of iOS emojis, we wanted to pay tribute to them by looking back to see how they have evolved since birth . They have evolved so much, that they have even come alive in the form of Animojis!
The evolution of emojis in iOS

The first iOS emojis were released in November 2008, but by then they had completely changed the way we communicate and express ourselves .

Now the emojis are much more detailed than a few years ago, and a clear example of this are the following images that we share below.

That's how the emoji were in 2008:

Little by little Apple was adding more emoji and modifying existing ones. With iOS 8, the genres were added and more diversity began to be created:

With the arrival of iOS 9 and iOS 10 the emoji took a much more realistic 3D look:

And so on to iOS 11 , with new emojis and spectacular designs:

Curiosities about its design

Some emojis have their own stories to tell during their design process. For example, the popular poke emoji was used to make the upper part of the ice cream emoji .

Other emojis have become popular for other reasons , such as the peach emoji, often used to imitate an ass for its similarity.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the controversy that some emojis manage to unleash, such as the hamburger emoji, whose design ended in a war between iOS and Android .

The new Animojis

The evolution of iOS emojis has given way to other emoticon formats. For example, the Stickers. Little by little, Stickers have become much more popular, and since the implementation of news in iMessage with iOS 10, stickers are much more present among iPhone and iPad users.

But the thing does not end here, the emoji continue to evolve, so much that they have come alive. And how! After the launch of the iPhone X, Apple has created the Animojis , animated emojis that perfectly mimic the facial expressions of users reproducing their own voice. And this brings us to an interesting question that we will answer on another occasion ... How will the emojis of the future be?

The next generation of emoji will come along with the launch of Unicode 11 in 2018.

What do you think about the evolution of iOS emojis? Is there any emoji that you would like it to return to its original design? What is your favorite iOS emoji?
