Android users are more faithful than iPhone users



Often the specialized media in iOS we take advantage of the operating system of Apple for its exquisite design, fluidity, stability and security. Moreover, more than once and twice I have said that " the one who tries an iPhone, does not go back to Android ". The last CIRP study plants me the results all over my face, showing that I could not be more wrong.

I mean, the users of Apple devices are loyal , in fact that loyalty to the brand has been consolidated and confirmed over the years, entering into Apple's own strategy, but those of Android are more.

And the fact is that the CIRP survey shows that Android has not only surpassed iOS in terms of the ability to retain its users - something that was achieved in the summer of 2014 - but has grown over time, or that follows by a survey of 500 people. Of that half thousand, 91% of them have stayed with their operating system for at least a year, or what is the same, that has not changed mobile.



As detailed by Josh Lowitz, co-founder of CIRP:


    The loyalty to Android now slightly exceeds that of iOS. Over time the loyalty to Android has been growing gradually, as their apps, music and video were improving, as well as their user experience was more satisfying, resembling iOS. In addition, Android users have the advantage of having a wide range of terminals from different manufacturers, so they can jump from one phone to another without changing the operating system.

In this way, the range for Android goes from 89 to 91% and in iOS it drops to a range that goes from 85 to 88% , understood as the percentage of users who stay with each operating system after activating it in a new phone in the next twelve months.

    Loyalty is the highest we have ever seen, from 85 to 90%. With only two operating systems, it seems that when a user opts for one and learns it, investing in storage and apps, he stays with it. Now Google and Apple need to learn how to sell products and services to their loyal customer base.

The reality is that today there are only two options: Android or iOS, what makes us think is that users who lose one, the other wins , and vice versa. Therefore the objective of both should not only be to retain their users, but also to convince those on the other side to take the leap. Something they already have very much in mind, both for their advertising campaigns , as for other factors such as price, security or design.

But there is another key: the first telephone of the users . Here there are key parameters such as price and usage, which tip the balance to Android and its low range, although the aspirational factor also plays its trump card for iOS. However, a low-end Android can also be a true factory of fans of the bitten apple. According to Lowitz:

    iOS and Android compete more aggressively with the buyers of their first phone.


A study that does not say everything

An in-depth look at the CIRP study allows us to go a little beyond the headline in which a priori, the fidelity to Android is greater than to iOS. To begin we must bear in mind that this study has been carried out with only 500 people, a very small figure considering the more than 2 billion active devices of Android and 1,300 million of iOS . Pure statistics: with such a small sample, representativeness is lost when extrapolating to the global calculation.

But it is also obvious that there is not the same user base of Android as of iOS, nor is the ratio of jumps from Android to iOS and vice versa. Because this analysis does not say everything, because the rate of change to iOS is higher , as we can read in Macrumors . With a larger user base, more users jump to iOS.

In general, it could be said that more than an operating system, users tend to stay true to a brand , although with the growing trend towards gadgets, more and more tends to be a complete ecosystem. And here Android has an advantage, working with different manufacturers as powerful as Google or Samsung itself, which allows them to combine TVs, smartphones, computers or refrigerators.

In Apple this dimension is smaller and more expensive when working with third parties, both for its volume and the requirements and particularities of the bitten apple.

The reality is that, although it is not a study too extensive in terms of number of respondents, if you bet on Android is much easier to continue with the same operating system even if you change your mobile, considering that they have a large market of terminals of high, medium and low range.
