Facebook accepts responsibility for the leakage of user data

The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged his responsibility to the data leak of more than 50 million users of the social network, to influence the US presidential election in 2016. He said the firm will investigate all applications that had access to information and that will expand the restrictions on developers to avoid other "abuses".

How Facebook influenced the presidential elections in the United States?

In a text posted on his Facebook profile, he explains the situation that occurred between Facebook, Cambridge Analytica and the US presidential elections in which Donald Trump won.

"We have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we can not, then we do not deserve to serve them," he said. He has also reported on the measures he has taken regarding the protection of the data of network users.

The Facebook Platform was created in 2007, to be a social network where friends share personal information and photographs, but in 2013 a researcher at the University of Cambridge named Aleksandr Kogan created an application that was installed by more than 300,000 people. This application allowed a person to share not only their data, but also the data of their friends and the data of friends of their friends ... that allowed Kogan access to tens of millions of data from millions of people ...

Therefore, in 2014, Facebook made certain changes in the platform to drastically limit the data that applications could access.

But Kogan had already shared data from its application with Cambridge Analytica, a private company that combines data mining and data analysis with strategic communication for electoral processes.

Zuckerberg indicated that due research will be done on all the applications that had access to large amounts of information before changing the platform of the social network, in this way the access to the data will be drastically reduced. It also states that full audits of any application with suspicious activity as well as all Facebook developers will be carried out.

This makes us analyze very well what kind of information we can share in the network.
