A US senator wants to take away Apple's power over the App Store

Elizabeth Warren, a popular senator from the United States of America, recently announced one of her most radical plans to end the monopoly that some technology companies have.

The senator has proposed to set new restrictions in terms of the freedom that companies like Apple and Google have to take advantage of their power in the application stores .

And reason is not lacking, because Apple usually set very strict standards in its App Store for their own benefit, so that developers can not use features unique to their native applications. But it is not the only advantage of being the owner of the App Store ... Apple also charges very high fees to developers, earning income almost from scratch.

In the App Store they also promote their own services ahead of any other developer. But ... being fair, if Apple has invented its App Store, the logical thing would be that they could do what they want with it. As long as, of course, the rates are fair.

Elizabeth Warren wants to prohibit Apple to be the owner of its App Store
According to the senator, Apple should not be allowed to offer its own applications in the App Store or be its owner. In order to better understand Elizabeth Warren's proposal, we can give Apple Music services as an example. It is installed by default on iOS, but third-party music services must pay 30% of their income to Apple.

"THESE COMPANIES SHOULD BE PROHIBITED FROM OWNING THE UTILITY OF THE PLATFORM AND ANY OF ITS PARTICIPANTS. THE UTILITIES OF THESE PLATFORMS SHOULD MEET A FAIR, REASONABLE AND NON-DISCRIMINATORY STANDARD WITH USERS. NOR SHOULD THEY ALLOW THE TRANSFER OR SHARING OF DATA WITH THIRD PARTIES. "
